Project Summary:

An industry-based survey project will investigate the abundance and distribution of winter flounder in the waters of southern New England. The survey will improve the information available for the management and assessment of the southern New England/Mid-Atlantic stock of winter flounder. It will incorporate knowledge from Point Judith fishermen regarding current and historical fishing locations of winter flounder, as well as the time of year winter flounder are captured by the otter trawl fishery in the region. The collaborative nature of the proposed project will allow for the collection of scientifically acceptable data for use in stock assessment and management, while giving fishermen the opportunity to quantify anecdotal information regarding SNE/MA winter flounder.
